This guy’s smarter than me…

Wonder when I could come up with such a brilliant (and simple) idea. Maybe after robot wives become cheap and effective.

Moondance and “non-violent conflict”

November 28, 2007

The Moondance International Film Festival http://www.moondancefilmfestival.com/01-Home.html  was just held – I had a friend in it so I care – but when I went to the website to check it out, I saw this link…

http://www.moondancefilmfestival.com/15-C-ProdFund.html

which promotes its “non-violent confict resolution in the arts & film”.  While I can honor the sentiment, I feel that it’s wrongheaded to push the idea that all conflicts might be resolvable without the use of force. A couple of concealed handguns in the hands of the teachers (or even students!) might have saved some lives that day in Columbine…and I never get tired of saying that.

Did he stick around to admire his handiwork, or to make sure it was down?

Another job description gets enlisted in the War on Terror (TM). I’ve actually read about this before, bu this is the first long article I’ve seen on the subject.

The Milwaukee Journal published this in their paper edition today…not that I think they really believe it. Great editorial though.

Be sure to read the info underneath the movie…

As long as we use these methods, how can we hold the moral high ground?

One technology useless…

November 22, 2007

Again, always late when posting about gun rights – spent the better part of an hour (on Thanksgiving, yet) making video for YouTube – & get blackballed with their terms of use.

I was going to post this when I had the YouTube video up – but I guess I’ll have to hold onto it until the next round of microstamping talk comes up in Wisconsin…

My only comment – why would microstamping be any different than bullet lead analysis when it comes to evidence (especially with this post by Kevin of The Smallest Minority…)

Letter to the Senators

November 16, 2007

I’m always late to the party when it comes to gun rights, but I though I’d better send out a couple of emails to my senators before David Codrea comes to my house & kicks my ass…

http://waronguns.blogspot.com/2007/11/sink-sullivan-now.html

Here’s the text of mine (didn’t think individualizing the text would make much difference…and remember that I’m no Shakespeare…)

Dear Senator (Don’t-Give-A-Damn-About-Gun-Rights – and yes, I changed that name for the letter)

I demand you do not support the confirmation of Michael Sullivan to head of the BATFE. I have read of the persecution of law-abiding firearms dealers in the past for minor procedural matters (Red’s Trading Post) and fear that, should Sullivan be confirmed, such treatment will become even more commonplace.  I’ve also read of his disproportionate sentencing of minorities and find them distateful.

We need a fair and just person in this position – not a martinet.

Soliliquy – Anime Armageddon

November 14, 2007

cass-14.jpg

This post goes hand in hand with the Casshern review (which prompted me to write it)…

To all you anime enthusisasts out there – ever notice that the world has to end in many anime series? (excluding the sports anime, the romance anime, both homo & hetero, the Pokemon & their ilk anime, and any other anime that I’ve forgot to mention.) I mean, in a unscientific sampling of my own collection…

Tokyo is destroyed in Akira

Most of Earth is submerged under water in Blue Submarine No. 6

Cities are driven underground by the attacks of the Angels in Neon Genesis Evangelion

I could go on, but my hypothesis is that the writers of such series find it much easier to wipe the slate clean, rather than take the time to write something plausible about how the world they’re writing about came to be.  The troubling part to me is part of the theme in Casshern and another movie I own, Appleseed, is that man is inherently flawed and needs to be wiped out in whole or part, in order for some sort of Utopia to be created.  Weird…
